1000 Books Before Kindergarten

Have you registered for “1,000 Books Before Kindergarten,” which encourages reading to young children? Any child, from birth to the day they enter Kindergarten, is able to register for 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten in the Children’s Department.

After signing up, you and your child will receive your first reading log. Return to the library each time you and your child have completed 100 books to receive a special sticker and your next 100 books reading log.  Additional prizes will be awarded for various milestones. Books may be read more than once and recorded each time.

The program will take anywhere from a few months to a few years as it is self-paced and will depend on how often you read together. This free program is open to residents of North Tonawanda, Wheatfield, and Pendleton. For more information, please call the library.

Kids Crafts

We are still offering some great Kids’ crafts at the Information Desk as you leave the library.  Also, look for crafts for children this summer with our Summer Reading.

Do you love books and audiobooks?

We have a lot of new titles for you on Libby and Hoopla! Not sure how to use our digital offerings? Just ask a librarian! Digital titles are really great for read-aloud times–try a great chapter book with your young child. We have lots of suggestions to get you started! Some favorite picture books and great chapter books are all available with your library card!

We offer a variety of titles through both Libby and Hoopla to satisfy most every interest level, Pre-K–6. There are new titles added all the time. There are also ways to limit your preferences to only children’s materials on both of these sites. If you wanted to try to learn a new language, Rocket Languages could be for you! To access all these great titles, all you need is a North Tonawanda Library card.
